About Me

Welcome to The Rare Earth Runner blog.

My name is Ricky and I have spent the last few years honing my endurance skills. I've been a competitive person my entire life but up until recently have I begun to commit to the life of an endurance athlete. It was only a few years ago that I thought I would never be able to run due to serious ITB issues. The passing of my grandfather motivated me to start running again. At the time, I ran to mask pain with pain and running through the emotional and physical pain allowed me to experience a form of enlightenment that I desire to reach each and every day. In the past running is where I could be with my grandfather.

Now, I am motivated to compete at the highest level that my mind and body will allow. I am new to the sport of ultrarunning and I grow with each and every race. My goal is to learn and test myself in every way possible by harnessing the transcendental aspects of mind, body, and spirit.

One of my favorite quotes:
"To use fear as the friend it is, we must retrain and reprogram ourselves...We must persistently and convincingly tell ourselves that the fear is here--with its gift of energy and heightened awareness--so we can do our best and learn the most in the new situation." Peter McWilliams
